Hi, I'm Nina!
I'm the author of Fiona Fry and the Hair-Raising Showdown, a funny, confidence-building adventure written to help children discover resilience, courage and the confidence to have another go.
I believe every child deserves to know that mistakes aren't failures—they're simply part of learning, growing and becoming brave enough to keep trying.
My hope is that every child who meets Fiona discovers that they are capable of far more than they realise.
Read My Story ↓I Know What It Feels Like To Be Scared...
For as long as I can remember, I was terrified of speaking in public.
Not just a little nervous. Absolutely terrified.
The thought of standing in front of people made my heart race. I'd avoid it whenever I could.
Then something unexpected happened. Writing Fiona Fry challenged me to live the very message I wanted children to learn.
Since then I've spoken on BBC Radio Lancashire, UCB Radio, visited schools and shared Fiona's story with hundreds of people.
Do I still get nervous? Absolutely. But courage isn't about never being afraid. It's about taking the next small step anyway.
Why I Keep Going
There are lots of children’s books.
But my hope has never simply been to write another story.
My hope is that one child who feels nervous finds the courage to have another go.
One child who thinks they aren’t good enough starts believing in themselves.
Because resilience isn’t something we’re born with. It’s something we learn.
